People are going back to basics. Instead of spending money in restaurants, they are choosing to spend time with their friends and family at home. Americans have woken up, realizing that the party has ended and that we are not the invincible super power that we thought we were. People in trouble are those who don’t know what a budget is. Unemployment is rising and credit has obviously tightened. People are going to have to tighten their belts and cut down on discretionary spending. There is a process of change and as economic troubles continue the financial behavior of the entire generation shall be altered in the way that the great depression changed the habits and styles of all those who lived thorough it.

We are seeing some of our clients of ours who are reducing spending while others are sticking their heads in the sand and assuming it’s going to get better sooner rather than later. It’s tough to change behavior but the smart people realize that you need to make pro active spending cuts and recognize that economic conditions will get worse before they get better.
